"Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride" is the fourth episode of Comedy Central's animated series South Park and originally aired on September 3, 1997. The episode was written by series co-founders Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and directed by Parker. In this episode, Stan's dog, Sparky, is assumed to be gay after humping a rival male dog. Bowing to social pressure, Stan tries to make him more masculine, and as a result, Sparky runs away ending up at Big Gay Al's Big Gay Animal Sanctuary. After Stan understands homosexuality, he tries to make everyone accept it. "Big Gay Al's Gay Boat Ride" addressed open homosexuality in a way that was uncommon for television at the time, which created some anxiety among Comedy Central executives. The network also initially objected to offensive remarks made by sports commentators in the episode, but the comments were kept in at the insistence of Parkers and Stone. George Clooney made a guest appearance as Sparky, a throwaway part with no dialogue except for dog barks. The episode marked the first appearance of Big Gay Al and generally received positive reviews for its portrayal of homosexuality.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Homer's Phobia" is the fifteenth episode of The Simpsons' eighth season, and originally aired on the Fox Network in the United States on February 16, 1997. In the episode, Homer dissociates himself from new family friend John after discovering that John is gay. Homer fears that John will have a negative influence on his son Bart and decides to ensure Bart's heterosexuality by taking him hunting. It was the first episode written by Ron Hauge and was directed by Mike B. Anderson. George Meyer pitched "Bart the homo" as an initial idea for an episode while show runners Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein were planning an episode involving Lisa "discovering the joys of campy things". Oakley and Weinstein combined the two ideas and they eventually became "Homer's Phobia". Originally, due to the controversial subject, the Fox censors found the episode unsuitable for broadcast, but this decision was reversed after a turnover in the Fox staff. Filmmaker John Waters guest-starred, providing the voice of the new character, John.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! After crashing Eleanor's wedding reception and finding himself passed out in the bathtub, cooking school student Jack Tripper happens across Janet Wood, a florist, and Chrissy Snow, a secretary, in need of a new roommate after Eleanor moves out. Having only been able to afford living at the YMCA, Jack quickly accepts the offer to move in. However, due to landlord Stanley Roper's intolerance for co-ed living situations, even in a multi-bedroom apartment, Jack is only allowed to move in after Janet tells Mr. Roper that Jack is gay. Although Helen Roper figures out Jack's true sexuality in the second episode, she does not tell her husband. Frequently siding with the three roommates instead of her husband, Mrs. Roper's bond with the roommates grows until the eventual spinoff The Ropers. Jack continues the charade when new landlord Ralph Furley takes over the apartment complex because Mr. Furley insists that his hard-nosed brother Bart (the building's new owner) would also never tolerate such living situations.
